Tooth Extractions in Temple, TX

Losing a tooth is not something anyone anticipates or even wants to consider. After all, you take good care of your oral health, and you expected that your teeth would last forever.

At Temple Dental Trails, our goal is to save teeth whenever possible. But dental trauma or decay can happen to anyone, and when it severely compromises your tooth, it may be better to remove the tooth to alleviate pain or infection.

Dr. Richard Leung and our professional team are very sensitive to the fact that you may be anxious about having a tooth extracted – almost everyone is. But our gentle, compassionate approach and concern for your well-being will maximize your comfort and help you overcome your anxiety.

Reasons for Removing a Tooth

There are several situations where it may be necessary to remove your tooth:

  • Advanced Decay – Your tooth has become so damaged by decay that a filling or crown is not sufficient to protect it.
  • Root Canal Infection – Infection has advanced to the point that we cannot resolve it with traditional treatment.
  • Preparation for Dentures – You’re getting dentures and need to have one or more teeth removed
  • Preparation for Orthodontic Treatment – Your child needs orthodontic treatment, and one or more teeth need to be removed.

They were very kind and made me feel at ease.

I had a tooth extraction. Dr.Vu was very kind and patient. The tooth was being stubborn but he and his nurse took their time until it finally came out. I had very little pain at all. They were very kind and made me feel at ease.

Comfortable Care in a Soothing Environment

The moment you arrive for your appointment, you will see that we’re not just an ordinary dental office. We’ve worked hard to create an environment that is calming and stress-free. You will be greeted warmly by a member of our team, and amenities like complimentary bottled water, flat screen TVs, pillows, and blankets will make you feel right at home.

If you need a little more help to get you through the procedure, we offer convenient sedation options to help you relax. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) will help you stay calm during treatment and has no lingering after-effects. If you’re feeling a little more anxious, Dr. Rich can give you a calming medication when you arrive at our office.

When you’re anticipating a dental procedure like tooth extraction, it’s normal to feel anxious and slightly overwhelmed. It’s our job to provide you and your family with the personalized, gentle care that you deserve. This is especially important for young children, and Dr. Rich and our team will be there every step of the way to support and encourage you and your child.

Frequently Asked Questions

Wisdom Teeth Removal Temple TXIf you have wisdom teeth (not everyone gets them) and they are healthy, you probably don’t need to have them removed. Healthy means that they have completely erupted, are not out of proper position or alignment, and they can be easily cleaned as part of your regular oral hygiene routine.

Wisdom teeth are also referred to as third molars and are located in the very back of your mouth. In many cases, this doesn’t allow them to grow properly, which is when they become a problem. This positioning can also cause them to grow at odd angles – sometimes even horizontally.

Are there other concerns?

Other potential problems are that the wisdom teeth don’t erupt fully through the gum or, alternately, they don’t erupt at all. This is what we call an impacted wisdom tooth.

Whether or not a wisdom tooth should be removed can only be decided by your dentist. Partially erupted or impacted wisdom teeth will almost always need to be removed to prevent overcrowding and protect surrounding teeth. It may be better to remove wisdom teeth before they cause problems, but that needs to be decided on a case-by-case basis.

Still unsure? Contact us!

If you have wisdom teeth and are wondering if you need to have them removed, please contact our Temple dental office. Dr. Leung will be happy to consult with you to decide if removal is the best course of action in your particular case.
