What Does Dental Insurance Cover?
Dental insurance is a valuable benefit and provides access to quality oral health care for people who might not otherwise be able to afford it. It’s important to know what your plan covers, but understanding benefits, co-pays, deductibles, annual maximums, and how they apply to your treatment can be daunting, to say the least!
If you want to make knowledgeable decisions about the financial aspects of your treatment, you need assistance, and the team at Temple Dental Trails can help. We’re here to take the stress out of dental care in general and insurance and financing in particular.
“100-80-50” Coverage and What it Means
You may hear or see the term 100-80-50 coverage and wonder if you need to learn higher math to figure out what it means. Every policy is different, of course, but this is just a standard formula used by many major insurance companies to determine your benefits:
- 100 percent coverage for preventive and diagnostic care like exams, cleanings, and routine x-rays.
- 80 percent coverage for fillings, root canals, and other routine procedures
- 50 percent coverage for restorations like crowns and bridges as well as major procedures
What you don’t see included in here are cosmetic dentistry costs, which insurance rarely covers. However, keep in mind that most dental procedures like crowns, bridges, and fillings improve your oral health and improve the appearance of your smile.
